I have a black-and-white kitty of my own, who was also born 1998. I got her when she was 10 weeks old. I already mourn the day she will leave me, after all those years. My second went over the rainbow almost exactly 3 years ago (on the 7th) and I never did quite get over it. Hope you and your family can give each other some solace.
I’m so sorry. I know how it feels. My Mushu, who looked so much like Maggie, was a complete Mr. Grumpy-Paws and kind of a jerk to his brother and a thieving bastard (which I’m sure was the cause of his kidney failure, as cats are not meant to eat chicken bones and pork chops and peanut butter sandwiches and Thanksgiving dinner with fixings including peas and popsicles and couscous…and so on…) but I loved him, and he loved me. We used to sleep together, late to bed and late to rise, and we’d hold paws. I’d squeeze and he’d squeeze back.
I imagine Mushu is in kitty heaven, welcoming Maggie with a scowl and some stolen goodies from the trash.
Truly sorry for your loss. : ( It is never easy to have furry friends physically leave our lives. The time spent with them always means so much because we know we don’t get to stay with them forever. Hopefully good memories will help you and your family keep her in your hearts furever. Keeping you in my thoughts- Mutt
