Lounging Around

Sophiered, Christina, and Stella Dolce have all asked about how the new lights in the house look.

I’d never refuse them, so here’s not only the lights, but the renovated (and still going) lounge.

We decided that one wall painted one color and the others another was feeling a bit 2000′s, so we painted the entire room a softer color and hung curtains, which I was initially against but it has softened the room a great deal. We changed the layout, which is a very complicated process indeed as we’re sticklers for having no cables showing at all, so it means a whole lot of holes were knocked into a whole lot of walls.

(That’s the fun part, though.)

If you’ve seen me re-working the light we saw, then you understand. If not, here it is:

Re-working

I look smoking, don’t I? Glasses, t-shirt, no makeup. Truly, a sight to not behold.

We got a pair of antique Italian wall chandeliers that were in bad shape. I re-strung one of them this past weekend, and Alastair hung it up. We got them for next to nothing because I suspect most people can’t be doing with re-stringing chandeliers, and I don’t blame them. I’d say I actually enjoyed doing it, but you’ll think I’m a dork. More of a dork, that is.

We also got our hands on an art deco light which divides people. It’s weird, I’ll admit, however I adore it.

More of the new lights

This is the light in situ, as it were.

I think it makes a large boring space a lot more interesting, but then I would say that since it’s in my prowling territory, no?

And here’s the sparkly chandelier, lit up as we head into sunup.

We’re a bit light on decorations – there’s a big something I have in mind for over the sofa, but we have one picture (which will be moving to another prominent location) hung there for now.

I also tidied up the green light in this photo – an antique banker’s lamp from the 1920′s.

And the room is complemented (I think, anyway) by the dining room changes that we made.

There’s still much to do – more decoration for the walls, some more lighting tweaks and changes (I have one more light to polish up, an antique Victorian light that, surprisingly, came with this house). But we’re getting there. As ever with DIY, it’s all a matter of sighing, carrying on, and then basking in the glow of completion.

And glow in this house of lighting fans is something we can definitely do.

Until then, all I have to say is this: I love the new chandelier.

Like, lots.

PS – let me be honest – our house isn’t usually this tidy. We generally have any combination of toys, business clothes shed off, post, random coyotes that wander in and out, or dust. The in-laws popped by this weekend, though. When the in-laws drop in, we all have to clean. And I mean all of us.

OK, first, I love your t-shirt. Second, I love the chandelier! Third, the placement of your lights makes absolutely no sense to me. I must have either centered or symmetrical (talk about dork!) and none of yours are. It’s kind of freaking me out. ;)

I like the re-strung lights! I also like seeing Nora in the pic. She’s getting so big!

Very nice. I really love your dining room – I can totally picture family meals there. And the curtains are great for the space and colors.

The house looks gorgeous. I love the wallpaper behind the cupboard in the dining room – so unexpected, so amazing!

    A. Your house is lovely. And well-lit, which I like in a house.
    B. Thank you for reminding me I need a new lamp. Somebody (*points accusingly at kitten*) broke my beautiful purple-flower-filament light.
    C. You must have overwhelming amounts of patience in order to restring that light.

I LOVE your house Shannon! I would be quite comfy there with my quilting machines and your kids. Your lights are really great – it’s a great mix.

I love the art deco light as well as the chandelier, but the most beautiful sight is your little girl :-)

And Nora has certainly grown. What a good helper!

I absolutely love the eclectic mix of things you have rescued and returned to life! I’m sorry that “a” is having difficulty with the lack of symmetry, but I think it works. Thanks for the tour! Can’t wait to see what is next over the sofa…

I am finally catching up with reading after being a bit down the rabbit hole to steal words from a mutual friend. As I read, I had comments in mind. However, since they are closed now, I can’t seem to remember anything except the most inane one: I am totally going to start doubling up on dogs. That is the PERFECT solution!

Also, I inherited some wonderful things from both parents. I also inherited some fairly crappy ones from each. I don’t think I have ever considered it a minus for them…just part of the package. Be kind to yourself. xo

Where have I been all this time?
